Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) Technician
The QA/QC Technician reports to the QA/QC Manager.
Job Overview
This position provides direct support to the Quality Department, which in turn provides support to Brewery Operations to maintain company policies and ensure all products meet company quality standards. This position will focus on tasks involving fermentation monitoring and quality testing, while also providing support to Brewery Operations, which can include preparing and handling brewing ingredients, brewery vessels, and packaged beer. This position needs to communicate regularly, effectively, and efficiently with supervisors and team members.
Responsibilities and Duties
• Follow proper standard operating procedures in all aspects of production.
• Adhere to all established safe job procedures.
• Assist the QA/QC Manager to develop processes to improve quality and consistency of all products.
• Continuously monitor fermentation status of all in-process products in the brewery including measurement and recording of temperature, gravity, and pH.
• Assist with yeast management tasks including pitching, harvesting, cell counting, and pitch rate calculations.
• Work with packaging team to monitor carbonation and dissolved oxygen levels of packaged product.
• Compile sanitation and cleaning logs of brewery vessels and equipment.
• Work with QA/QC Manager to administer tasting and sensory panels and training sessions to monitor product quality and lifespan.
• Maintain cleanliness of all QA/QC and Brewery Operations areas.
• Routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
• Maintain inventory of lab supplies and report purchasing needs to QA/QC Manager.
• Communicate regularly and efficiently with manager and team members.
• Assist Brewery Operations staff as needed in completing the brewing process, including, but not limited to, preparation and handling of brewing ingredients, brewery vessels, and packaged beer.
• Complete all necessary paperwork and data entry tasks accurately and on time.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualification Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related discipline strongly preferred.
• Previous brewing or manufacturing experience a plus.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule: days, nights and or weekends.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to write reports with grammatical correctness.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and standard operating procedures.
• Possess the ability to multi-task and manage stressful circumstances associated with a fast-paced and evolving work environment.
• Ability to work both independently as well as in a team environment.
• Ability to use various types of monitors and instruments for analytical testing.
Equipment, Machines, and Software Used
• Software such as Word, Excel, Ekos, and various Google programs.
• Equipment including laboratory and beer analysis equipment, as well as various large manufacturing equipment used in beer production.
• Various gas regulators and multi flow liquid valves.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time, perform repetitive motions of the hands and/or wrists, and perform various tasks with dexterity, strength, and mobility.
• Ability to lift and move up to 55 pounds, and ability to move up to 165 pounds with assistance.
• Ability to work at heights, climbing stairs or ladders up to 12 feet.
Environmental Conditions
While performing the duties of this position, the worker may be exposed to environmental conditions including hot liquids, pressurized vessels and transfer lines, strong odors, chemicals, elevated noise levels, and moving machinery.
